During the month of March we get to celebrate National Social Worker Month! Through the embryo adoption process, you will most likely meet with a social worker, so we would like to take time to celebrate the people who work so hard to help you with your adoption!
This year, the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) chose the theme: “Elevate Social Work.” Social workers elevate and empower those around them in many different ways. Here are some ways that social workers help you through the embryo adoption process:
- They are responsible for your home study and all the necessary documents that go along with it. They often spend time between working at the office, visiting families and their homes, and driving anywhere in between.
- Social workers spend time with you processing the adoption journey – they will chat with you about fears, concerns, joy, and excitements. They will provide education on topics varying form embryo adoption (as we all know, this is a very unique journey!), how to grieve your infertility, and what an open adoption could look like.
- The social worker is also there for post-adoption/birth support. They will meet with you to see how your family are doing with the addition of a new little one.
It’s a lot of work! Here is how to celebrate your social worker this month:
- Write them a thank-you note! A personalized note with words of gratitude will make your social workers’ day. While they don’t do what they do for the recognition, it would be greatly appreciated.
- Be an advocate for adoption. Spread the news about this beautiful opportunity!
- Check out the NASW Public Service Announcement here.
