It has been exciting for the Awareness Center to slowly but surely see embryo donation and adoption, as well as the terminology we use, gain more and more popularity. In some ways, it has even moved into mainstream culture appearing in newspapers, magazine articles, stories on CNN and now, even popular novels.
In the recent novel Face of Betrayal by attorney and Fox News commentator, Lis Wiehl, embryo donation and adoption briefly takes center stage.
The Chapter “United States Senate, September 20” depicts a character, Senator Fairview, arguing on the Senate Floor against using embryos for research. His argument centers around a series of photos of embryos through fetal development to a photo of little pigtailed girl, Ellie, and pictures she has drawn. He says, “Ellie drew this to show herself when she was adopted as a frozen embryo. She is what they call a snowflake. The couple that adopted Ellie had infertility problems. They could not conceive, so they adopted her as an embryo. She was implanted, and now we’ve got Ellie, and she’s already quite the artist.”
This is just a small reminder and encouragement of how the word about embryo donation and adoption continues to spread.
