Most couples enter into the marriage covenant without considering what will happen in the event of a divorce down the road.  Who wants to have those thoughts when you’re so much in love?

But the unfortunate truth is that divorce happens.  Death happens. Stuff happens.  And what if in the midst of this happening you and your spouse end up with remaining embryos in frozen storage from your IVF treatment?

Now you’ve determined that your marriage is over, what will happen to the remaining embryos?

The Embryo Adoption Awareness Center has from its inception advocated for couples to make this important decision before they potentially reach this fork in the road of life.  It’s so much easier to develop a mutually agreeable outcome before communication breaks down.

What if one of you wants to use the remaining embryos to have more children?  Will you decide to have the embryos destroyed in the case of divorce? Or perhaps you prefer to have the embryos donated for reproduction through your clinic or an agency instead? What shall be done with remaining embryos is a difficult decision even for happily married couples.

The EAAC invited Ronald L. Stoddart, Esq. to present a webinar called The Benefits of Early Decision Making: Death, Divorce, and Remaining Embryos.

With the rise in use of in vitro fertilization, the likelihood of couples divorcing with remaining embryos is increasing too.  More frequently we read about the more heated court cases on this topic.

Watch the recording of the webinar below to help begin to make a plan for your remaining embryos.
